Gavin Mowling
Managing Director
Gavin has over 10 years of experience of working with different types of health organizations around the world. Prior to joining Healthcost, he spent 7 years working in both the finance and information departments at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, where he was involved in the initial pilot work of Monitor and McKinsey's around construction of service line economics (SLE), which is now service line reporting (SLR). He graduated from Middlesex University (Where he received his BA in Business Economics).
He has lead on the successful implementation of patient level costing in over 20 sites across Europe, resulting in the construction of robust and effective SLR based upon detailed patient level data.
An active member of both HfMA and PCSI, he has delivered workshops on best practices in costing and delivering costing outputs to clinicians.
Currently in the final stages of finishing his ACCA qualification, in addition to BSC in applied accountancy, utilising the NHS spending reforms as subject matter for his dissertation.

Brett Oates
Director of Projects
Brett Oates (B Com) has extensive experience in the health sector, specialising in health management, contracting and hospital costing systems. Brett's international experience focuses on development of cost and revenue models across a broad spectrum of hospitals, insurers and governments with a focus on casemix funding. Recently the international projects include:
Participated in the implementation of clinical costing services to several major trusts in the UK, including
Addenbrooks (University of Cambridge), Norfolk and Norwich and Chelsea and Westminster. Currently the lead consultant for the national clinical costing project of Slovenia,
worked with the Department of Health in the Republic of Ireland where he was tasked with undertaking patient level costing studies for a number of public hospitals for the creation of annual DRG cost weights.
A lead role in the development of the national costing framework for the Republic of Germany and has a pool of 40 hospitals for which routine costing have been undertaken since 2002. Including among others Heidelberg University, and the Charitè (University Hospital of Berlin) included in several World bank costing projects including activities in Slovenia and Bosnia/Herzegovina undertaken the calculations for use with health insurance negotiation for a private hospital group in France.
In Australia, Brett undertook the National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) Private Sector data collections for Rounds 2, 3 and 4 and is currently undertaking the public NHCDC returns for the Northern Territory (commenced round 6), and has provided advice or undertaken the Tasmanian NHCDC public return through every round.

Mauli Hewavitarne
Implementation Consultant
Mauli has over fifteen years experience in the NHS finance sector. Following on from roles in both financial and management accounting, he went on to specialise in costing and was a key player in the successful implementation of patient level costing at the West Middlesex Hospital.
He played a major role in the set up and roll out of the Trusts Service Line reporting tool.
Mauli is currently in the process of finishing his CIMA accountancy qualification
As an implementation consultant, he draws upon his extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge in the set up of patient level costing/service line reporting to work with Trusts at the beginning of their journey.
Mauli joined the Healthcost team in 2010.

Atif Ahmad
QlikView Consultant
Atif has 4 years of experience in Business Intelligence Reporting using QlikView. With a total of 15+ years of experience in computer software development.
He has been working in different areas after completing his Masters in Software Engineering, Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a Major in Management Information System (MIS).
Atif has always been involved in teaching as a visiting faculty member, and has been teaching technology related subjects to university level students. Currently he is the lead QlikView developer and trainer with Healthcost.

Ayesha Aslam
Data Analyst
Ayesha joined the team in April 2012. Her role includes data analysis, scripting, producing reports and providing general support.
Ayesha graduated in 2011 with a 2:1 in BSc (Hons) Information Systems . Whilst at university, she also achieved a distinction award in professional development by completing a sandwich placement within the Information Technology sector.
Through her studies she has gained experience in analysing businesses and data, being involved in Software Project Management and has worked closely with user groups and clients whilst being involved in projects under employment. She has an understanding of representing data in visual formats through undertaking Human Computer Interaction as an optional module at degree level.

Dr. Nicholas Camus
Software Developer
Nicholas Camus has a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and a first class MPhys honours degree in theoretical physics both acquired from the University of Leeds. Nicholas has very strong mathematical and analytical capability and has been developing specialised software for data analysis for over 5 years as a theoretical physicist, both in academia and within the nuclear Industry.
Nicholas joined Healthcost in 2010 to aid in the development and roll-out of a new costing platform designed by Visasys Pty Ltd. Nicholas has gained experience of the costing process while working closely with Visasys Pty Ltd. over the last six months. Whilst at Healthcost, Nicholas' main role will be to work closely with the costing analysts providing developmental support as the new costing system comes into operation.

Kevin Ratcliffe
Project Contractor
Originally a registered nurse by profession, for the past eleven years Kevin was Manager of Clinical Costing for the Tasmanian Department of Health. During that time Kevin also worked as a consultant in many countries providing advice on patient level costing and Casemix issues, including the Republic of Ireland, Germany and Slovenia.
Kevin is an internationally recognised expert in costing and Casemix issues, has been published in journals such as the Australian Health Review, and has delivered papers to conferences in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Slovenia, Italy, and Singapore.
Kevin is an external contractor involved in data analysis, benchmarking projects and developing international markets such as Germany, Slovenia and Romania.
Les Egerton
Scripting Support -Visasys
Les Egerton has a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Griffith University (Queensland, Australia). Les joined Visasys in September 2001 and has provided technical and costing support to ComboCC users for private and public hospitals across Australia. Les has been instrumental in providing technical support for current ComboCC implementations in the UK.

Kim Lim
Scripting support - Visasys
Kim has a first class honours degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lancaster. Kim worked for several years as a cost accountant for the Parkway Group of Hospitals in Singapore and was a key player in implementing ComboCC for Parkway in 2001.
Kim was integral to the implementation of ComboCC in the North West London based Trusts in 2006. As one of our scripting experts, Kim has a high level of technical skill as well as a wealth of knowledge in the area of patient level hospital costing.
